For someone who has never played chess, here I explain the pieces, but the techniques can be learned on Duolingo. The explanations are below: ↓

Pawn ♙: The pawn is the least important piece; it only costs 1 point. It cannot move backward, and it captures diagonally. However, if it reaches the other side of the board, it gains something called "pawn promotion" (meaning the pawn can be exchanged for a Bishop ♗, Knight ♘, Queen ♕, or Rook ♖).

Rook ♖: The rook can only move horizontally and vertically, and costs 5 points.

Bishop ♗: The bishop can only move diagonally and costs 3 points.

Knight ♘: The knight can move in an L-shape and can jump over pieces, and it also costs 3 points, the same amount of points as the Bishop ♗.
